Bird mask Bobo people, Burkina Fasso 14 inches, painted wood The 100,000 strong Bobo people are one of the tribes who speak the Gur language and are collectively known as the Gurunzi. The Bobo carve masks to symbolise animals or spirits of the bush, which are worn during ceremonies associated with a new crop, initiations and funerals. Our bird mask has lost its crest and has been left in the elements for too long. None the less, it has that wonderful abstract design unique to Burkina Faso, and will be especially appreciated by those who favor that well-aged look.
