Sukuma helmet mask Sukuma people, Tanzania 14 inches, wood, iron spikes, copper plate This large helmet mask, was hand carved from heavy dark wood, and has pronounced ears, nose, copper cheeks, and an open mouth with bared teeth made of iron. Such masks serve as an integral part of the daily life within tribes located in parts of Tanzania and Camaroon. Designed to encase the wearers head entirely. Although the exact age is unknown, this splendid example of Tanzanian art is in fine condition and quite impressive. Looks best on a stand, or propped up against the wall. Its color is quite dark-- not the light brown you see in the photos. Made of heavy, dense wood. SOLD
