Yombe mask Yombe people, Congo 10 inches, painted wood Originally part of
the Kongo kingdom, the Yombe people are closely related to the Vili and
Beembe. Masks like this one were worn for initiation ceremonies and the
funerals of important personalities. The realistic form, the stripes, and
the files teeth are quite characteristic. A rich red-brown in color, it is
both unique in appearance and quite handsome.
