Baga people, Guinea 43 inches, stained wood Usually the tallest man in the village dances this large, heavy mask by holding it on his shoulders. A long, raffia skirt hangs from just below the breasts of the mask, all the way to the ground, completely hiding the dancer who looks out through the small gap just below the breasts. This enormous fertility mask represents the spirit of women who have born children, an important fertility symbol in the celebration of the rice harvest. It is carried in procession twice yearly. Very large and heavy, this piece was probably never used and is in perfect condition. On or off the stand it is an imposing sculpture that will dominate most spaces. It will be costly to ship and an effort for me, so I'm hoping that someone might enjoy a drive to scenic Lancaster, PA. Custom-made stand is included. Base is 14 x 21 in. All together, the Nimba stands 70 in high. $960
