African Dogon animal mask
Dogon people, Mali, Africa
14 inches, heavily encrusted wood
The large round hole at either side was probably used to push a stick
through so that the dancer could lock his teeth while dancing. It has that crackled patina from covering it with food or drink. The beak
may have broken at one time because it appears to have been repaired.
Could also be from the Bamana culture.
