Burkina Fasso, Africa 28 inches, painted wood The 100,000 strong Bobo people are one of the tribes who speak the Gur language and are collectively known as the Gurunzi. The Bobo carve masks to symbolize animals or spirits of the bush, which are worn during ceremonies associated with a new crop, initiations and funerals. These circular masks probably represent an owl or some other kind of bird, however I have heard them called rain masks and sun masks. Of course, this one is made to be sold. Large in size and very geometric, this will stand out on your wall.
