Chikunza mask Chokwe people, Zambia 35 inches, painted heavy fabric I believe this is a Chikunza mask, one of many styles of makishi masks used by Chokwe people. The makishi masks all represent ancestor spirits and are associated with human fertility, abundance of natural resources and prosperity. The mask is performed at male initiation ceremonies on behalf of the initiates and the village that hosts the initiation. It is quite large, but comfortable to wear and light in weight. It has never been used. SOLD
