Strange helmet mask
Somewhere in West Africa
Fits over head, carved out of one piece of wood
|
Q: It is made
of wood and has holes around the bottom. At first I thought Indonesia,
or even northwest America, but the geckos throw that conjecture off.

A:
I would guess it's from somewhere in West Africa where helmet
masks with attachement holes for raffia skirts are used. Those
little lizzards and other symbols should allow an African Art
specialist to tell you exactly where it is from. I don't have a
clue! |
