Made by Ida Ketut Berati, master carver. This is a top level mask suitable for a professional dancer. Masks of this caliber are seldom seen in the marketplace. They are incredibly well carved and finished with many coats of paint and great attention to detail. In my opinion, only the finest Noh masks can rival them in quality.
     This one is from the famous collection of Matt Wyatt, a well-know authority on Balinese art and a friend of the author of "Masks of Bali," Judy Slattum. Matt would seek out the famous master carvers such as Berati, I. Bagus Anom, I. Made Hartawan, I. Wayan Muka and others, get to know them, and purchase some of their finest works. Before he died prematurely, he sold part of the collection to me, the best of which I am now offering.
