Topang Tua mask Made by Ida Bagus Anom, master carver. This is a top level mask suitable for a professional dancer. Masks of this caliber are seldom seen in the marketplace. They are incredibly well carved and finished with many coats of paint and great attention to detail. In my opinion, only the finest Noh masks can rival them in quality. Anom was born in 1953 in Mas, Bali, in the same compound in which he and his family live today. He inherited his artistic talents from his father, the noted maker Ida Bagus Ketut Gelodog, who taught him carving, dancing and puppetry. Anom loves his art and participates in international festivals and tours. He was featured in the National Geographic video "Bali: Masterpiece of the Gods." This one is from the famous collection of Matt Wyatt, a well-know authority on Balinese art and a friend of a friend of author Judy Slattum. Matt would seek out the famous master carvers such as I. Bagus Anom, I. Ketut Berati, I. Made Hartawan, I. Wayan Muka and others, get to know them, and purchase some of their finest works. Before he died prematurely, he sold part of the collection to me, the best of which I am now offering for sale.
