This is a top level mask suitable for a professional dancer. Masks of this caliber are seldom offered for sale, nor are full-sized versions of the character, Mata Gede. This mask is especially rare because it is made entirely with natural materials, including the old-style paints, making it one of the most extraordinary masks in the collection. This is a real show-stopper! It's from the famous collection of Matt Wyatt, a well-know authority on Balinese art and a friend of the author of "Masks of Bali," Judy Slattum. Matt would seek out the famous master carvers such as I. Bagus Anom, I. Ketut Berati, I. Made Hartawan, and others, get to know them, and purchase some of their finest works.
