Carnival mask La Romana, Dominican Republic 21 inches, painted papier mache Here is an excellent example of the devil masks made for carnival in the Eastern D.R. They tend to be a little more like Puerto Rican masks than the Lechones of Santiago. These Dominican carnival traditions date back to the 1800’s when the island started to assume its own identity as a nation. Some of the horns are slightly bent, but still strong and sturdy. This is a very imposing mask signed by the maker. SOLD
