Haiti is known for outrageous masks, especially those from the city of Jacmel. This tradition extends to villages in the countryside as well. Here is a crude, but charming, example of a rural mask made for Mardi Gras by an ordinary person. Its construction is thick and strong, so it will hold up quite well.
