Carved wood masks are becoming hard to find in modern Nicaragua. Today papier mache is much more common. This one is new, well carved and painted, and intended for use in a village celebration. Note the Mexican influence. Though the mask is definitely Nicaraguan, some areas of that country are populated with ethnic, Nahua-speaking Mexicans.
