3 Torito Masks El Hacendado, El Diablo, and El Viejo Silao, Guanajuato 8 Inches (Hacendado), paper mache and plaster The masks, which represent the Hacendado (hacienda owner), a Diablo, and a Viejo (old man), were danced at one festival, in 1998, in San Miguel D’Allende. A dance photo from that occasion accompanies the set. The full cast of this dance also includes a Torito (little bull, actually a straw-mat bull that is worn on the shoulders of a running dancer), Death, La Bonita (the hacienda owners wife) a borracho and a borracha (male and female drunks) among others. I don’t know what happened to the rest of the masks in the set. These masks have a very polished appearance, they seem strong and sound. The last photo shows the entire Torito cast of characters. Also see La Muerte en las Danzas Mexicanas, pp. 25-7 for more pictures and information. sold
