Chivo Mask Chilpancingo, State of Guerrero 7.5 inches, painted wood In the Chivos (goats) Dance in Guerrero, there are two lines of dancers, side by side all portraying goats. The dancers may wear masks with horns, or masks plus a headdress with horns, or both. In contrast, in many other parts of Mexico there are dancers wearing goat masks, but in accessory roles and the dance has another name. In Guerrero it is often the case that the masks are very colorful, you can see this in a dance photo from Zitlala, Guerrero, in the book- In the Eye of the Sun: Mexican Fiestas, page 49. This mask seems of a scale to be worn by children. On the back it has a dull film of dirt, but the wood appears to be worn. It is competently carved, and appears to be genuine. sold
