Animal mask Guerrero, Mexico 7.5 inches, painted wood Used in the Tecuanes Dance. Tecuane does not refer to any particular animal, but rather connotes a wild animal, referring to the central character of the dance- the Jaguar or Tigre, but also including many other wild animals such as badgers, coatis, anteaters, etc. This mask appears to represent a canine character, so maybe this is the dog who assists the hunters. It is very well carved of a hard wood and the back has signs of wear. It has worn straps that seem authentic as well. $275
