Unique Moor Mask State of Veracruz 9 ½ inches, Carved wood with paint Use for the Dance of the Moros y Christianos, this is a very strong carving, in that the sideburns and mustache are in heavy relief and the nose is prominent. The character has a silly smile, unlike most Moors. In contrast, the painted eyes appear to be a later addition, while the vision holes would seem quite effective to be the eyes, and in fact have lashes painted on. On the back, the mask shows signs of significant use. All in all, it is a rather unique mask. $300
