Moro Mask Tempoal, Veracruz 9 inches, painted wood This mask, from Dance of the Moros y Christianos, has dramatic carved features on unpainted wood that resembles real skin color. The back shows evidence of moderate wear. The teeth and mustache are particularly pleasing. This character dances with a female character called a Mojica. They essentially represent Cortez and his Indian consort, Malinche. Like many of the Collison pieces, this mask is stereotypically Mexican and could not possibly be mistaken for anything else. $250
