Valencia is famous for Las Fallas, the big spring festival where many participants wear masks in which to celebrate. The end of festivities is a pyromaniac’s dream where most of the masks, figures and other decorations are burned. This very sturdy, handmade mask escaped the bonfires. Perhaps the blue facepaint is a reference to the peninsula’s barbaric past.
