Bavaria, Germany 8 inches, painted wood European peasants have been carving masks for more than a thousand years. Here is a traditional Bavarian or possibly Austrian folk mask. One of the most realistic carvings I’ve ever seen. You could wear this and some people would think you were for real. Unfortunately, it has no marks on the back so we don’t know who carved it, village, age, or for what purpose it was used. The wood seems to be a fairly hard species of pine. Rare.
