Alvarado mask Solola, Guatemala 9.5 inches, painted wood Pedro Alvarado mask from the Dance of the Conquest. Despite the lack of the original glass eyes, this beautifully carved mask has the morreria’s initials on the reverse. TH would be the Moreria de Tuy Hermanos in Solola. This old mask has been much used. Even the more recent head strap demonstrates where the blue dye has faded into the yellow portion due to perspiration from the wearer. Repainted several times. There are a few places where the paint is chipped or worn off, but otherwise in good shape. sold
