A classic Guatemalan mask from the Dance of the Conquest, it is certainly a very familiar looking character. This particular example is old, but in very good condition. The discolored eyes and dark patina are the result of age. As you can see, mid-20th-century masks are more skillfully carved than those of recent production... and these handsome pieces are getting harder and harder to find.
