Pig mask Rajbansi people, Terai, Nepal 12.5 inches, painted wood The Rajbansi live in a region called the Terai which is in southwest Nepal near or around the Indian border. Half of their land was annexed to India and half to Nepal. Their masks are usually painted with large features and the wood is heavy. This mask may belong to the Ramaya theater. The Ramayana is a very old saga originated from India with many versions, which can be found all through Asia, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Indonesia. At a time when most of the people had no education, these shows were the best way to deliver religious and philosophic messages. SOLD
