God mask India 13.5 inches, painted papier mache A common type of Indian papier mache mask. In a way, it is a metaphor for India herself, inasmuch as the newspapers used to make it show postal information printed in three languages—English, and what looks like Deva Nagri (Hindi?) and Dravidian (Singhalese?) scripts. Also visible are fragments of what is probably a train schedule. A date on the back says December 1974. SOLD
