Shaman mask Kandy, Sri Lanka 5.25 inches, painted wood This is a rare example of Sri Lankan carving in the late 19th century, when the country was known as Ceylon. Beautifully faded paint and many years of wear and outdoor use give this mask an ancient looking patina. It was purchased in 2002 from a reliable dealer on the outskirts of the Temple area of Kandy. This couple has been in the business many years and are known for their integrity as well as their fine objects, my source told me. $200
