This is the depiction of the divine lion, who was the divine vahana (Vehicle) for Goddess Durga who killed Mahishasura. This divine lion carried Goddess Durga during her battle with the demons and is always depicted with her, as fiercely pouncing on a buffalo - which actually was a deception carried out by Mahishasura. Used, with some paint loss as shown. The papier mache construction is thick and heavy.
