Southern Nepal 7 inches, wood, articulated jaw This is a hand-carved
wooden monkey mask, hinged at the jaw with two pieces of what appear to
be green rubber. There are two strings to loop around the ears to hold
it in place. The jaws make a loud clacking noise when they come
together, and the inside of the mouth has carved teeth, which can only
be seen when the mouth is open. The jaws can be worked by the wearer by
moving the chin down and then in, allowing the jaw to ‘clack’ back into
place.
