Kathmandu Valley, Southern Nepal 10.7 inches, painted sheet iron Demon masks like this one are used by the Newar people of the Kathmandu Valley for cult ceremonies where a god takes possession of the dancer chosen to represent him. Newar masks are sometimes made of metal. A thick roll of cloth stitched around the rear circumference is commonly used for comfort from the hard metal surface.
