10 inches, painted wood

One collector friend thinks this is a Conquistador from the state of Hidalgo. Another thinks it’s a Viejo or Moor from any one of several states in Mexico. It certainly is unusual with its four eye holes and the rough, single-color paint job. This large primitive mask appears to be authentic. Could it be that it is not quite finished?
