Tenosique, Tabasco 7.75 inches, wood, automotive paint A silver gray mask from Tenosique in the State of Tabasco; these are used in the El Pocho Dance, a performance to celebrate the coming of Spring and Harvest; Dancers wear many layers of dried leaves around their shins or sometimes the whole body to signify a good Harvest; the performers are divided into three groups one of them being Los Cojo’s, other groups are "Tigre’s" and old women called Pochoveras. Cojo Mask are always simple and older Masks somewhat crude, newer Mask are often spray painted with automotive paints like this one.
