Nayarit, Mexico 14 inches long, painted papier mache Here is a Cora Tigre mask from the Judea celebration (part of Holy Week) in the mountains of Nayarit state. The papier mache mask form is quite strong and there is excellent padding around the inside edges for comfort. The Cora people are not as influenced by Roman Catholicism or European artistic traditions as the Easter celebration would imply. But what about Hollywood? Couldn't this be the Pink Panther? You can find lots of information about this Indian group on the internet or in most Mexican mask books.
