Old Diablo mask Mexico 8.75 inches, old hardwood The former owner was the first Curator at the Colby College Art Museum in Waterville, Maine, in the early 1970’s. Later he became an antiques dealer. He said this was purchased from a shop that specialized in mask, located in Cuernavaca, 1981. He felt this was one of the oldest and best masks he purchased. Carved out of good hardwood. Great patina. Quite old. I wish I could tell you when and where this exquisite mask was used. Or why the ends of the horns are sawed off. All I can say is when its in your hands you know you are holding a treasure. |
