9 inches, gourd shell, paint

A piece of gourd shell drawn on and painted, this mask was made with minimum cost and effort. But look at the strange expression and what age has down to the surface. Why the stripes? I have never seen body hair depicted this way. I'm not even sure it is Mexican. Any information would be appreciated.
