Leather is a durable material that is more comfortable than wood. We are told this was used in a Macho Mula dance by Amuzgo-speaking Indians back in the 1950’s. We don’t know the village, but it would be somewhere in the Costa Chica area of Guerrero or Oaxaca. Now this 50-yr-old mask is faded and stiff.
