Masks of Mexico and Guatemala

Malinche mask

Michoacan

7 inches long, ceramic

You don't see many of the ceramic masks. They are surprisingly strong and have fabric glued on to the inside. Because they can break they have been replaced by masks made of wood or other material. I believe they are Tarascan, but I don't know what village(s). Probably made by pressing a sheet of clay over a mold. This little gal with a turned-up nose could be a Maringuilla or Malinche.
