Q: My
mother was in school in Mexico during the 1930's
when she bought this mask from Uruapan,
Michoacan. Lacquered, not painted. Some signs of
usage long ago. Sue, 2-2-12, 292
A:
Mexican mask collectors will immediately think of Victoriano
Salgado M. who is the most famous carver from Uruapan. This
might be one of his earliest masks. More likely its by one of
his mentors. Either way, it's very unusual and quite desirable.
I've never seen this character before.
