Carnival, Guerrero 11 inches long, painted papier mache Originally masks like this would have sold for just a few cents. The maker would have used a clay or wooden mold on which to layer the wet, sticky paper. This one is old and very well made. Probably authentic. Papier mache, though never as common as wood, has been used for many years in Mexico.
