Carpinteros, Hidalgo 11.5 inches long, painted wood These masks are used in the Carnival celebrations in Carpinteros and sometimes also in Huayacocotla just over the border in Veracruz. This particular mask comes from the Estela Ogazon Collection. I was told it is 30 yrs old and was used. The Carnival features a variety of figures from mustached old Viejo’s to different types of animals such as Cows, Hummingbirds, Roosters and Chickens.
