Mexico Feathered Headdress Danza de Pluma, Central Valley area, Oaxaca, Mexico 27 inches, light wood structure covered with feathers, cloth. sequins and mirrors, mounted on a felt hat To be worn without a mask, this fancy headdress stays on the dancer’s head very well because it is constructed over the crown of an old felt hat that presumably is the wearer’s exact size. Rarely sold to tourists or exported, this unusual item got to the USA in an interesting way. Dale Wolfe, former governor of Delaware, was working for the DuPont Corporation in the early 60’s. While attending a banquet in honor of a new contract for DuPont, his Mexican hosts insisted that he wear a traditional headdress during the festivities. He did, and then brought it home as a souvenir. SOLD
