Moro Pasion mask Dance of the Moors and Christians, Iguala, Guerrero, Mexico 10 inches long, painted wood A famous dance throughout much of Mexico, it is basically a drama about the good Christians vs. the bad Moors. The Moro Pasion character (Suffering Moor) seems appropriate to this dance, but was never used according to the experts. These bizarre masks, with their amazing proboscises, are thought to be purely decorative. This one has been around for a long time. The nose was broken once, but has been successfully repaired. Probably artificially aged and sold to tourists.
