Salish Northwest Coast Portrait Mask Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada 16 inches, painted Alder wood, with copper sheet-metal eyes This large NW Coast Salish portrait mask was done by John Gibson, who signs his name "Stomish," which means warrior. John resides in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada, where he has been carving since the late 1960’s. He takes pride in his carvings which are mainly masks and totem poles. This mask has been carved, painted, and then had Lemon oil rubbed in with a nylon stocking to make the finish look better as time goes by. Illustrated in the book, "Masks from Around the World." SOLD
