Tlingit people, Southern Alaska 9.7 inches, wood, paint A simply carved and painted NWC Native American mask that is quite decorative and intended for display rather than masquerade. Tlingit society is divided into two halves named Ravens and Eagles, with everyone belonging to one or the other moiety. Within the Raven moiety there are numerous clans including that of the owl. A dealer in NWC masks recently told me it is a reproduction carved in Indonesia.
