Chinese Lion mask New Year’s Dance, China 22 inches, painted papier mache with movable jaw and ears, puff balls Commonly performed in Northern China for the annual New Year celebration of the Feast of Lanterns. The dance is executed by three skilled acrobats, two of whom wear the Lion mask and cloth body, while one holds a brightly colored embroidered ball. The Lion is led through the neighborhood, stopping at houses and shops to receive small gifts of money. SOLD
