Furnace mask Palatine, Illinois, USA 15 inches, fiber board, wood, metal and glass A perfect example of a purely functional mask that could scare the heck out of anyone. This hand-held furnace mask is used, but still in good condition. Original label inside says "Sellstrom Safeguards Shield, Sellstrom Manufacturing. Co., Made in U.S.A., Palatine, Illinois." A similar mask is pictured on the back cover of the book "Masks from Around the World." We will include a copy of the book with your purchase. Furnace masks were used to protect the operator when the kiln or furnace window was opened to inspect the contents. Could also be used by someone doing occasional welding. sold
