Kamayura mask Xingu River, Central Brazil 33 inches, woven reed fibers, natural pigments and bee's wax. A fetish mask from central Brazil, probably Kamayura, Kuikuru, or Waura of the Xinguano group of about 12 tribes with very similar cultures who live along the Xingu river. Fetish masks are used to improve fishing and hunting, as well as for ceremonies such as funerals. Masks like this stretch over the head and the wearer can see and breath through the cracks. It was collected in the 1980’s and has become flat from hanging on the wall for many years, but still in good condition. $370
