Though this looks like a Bolivian carnival mask, it is probably from Southern Peru. Like the indigenous inhabitants of Bolivia, who speak mostly Aymara or Quechua, these people are part of the same Altiplano culture. The Altiplano is a remote inland area lying in the central Andes, occupying parts of Northern Chile and Argentina, Western Bolivia and Southern Peru. Cool and very dry, its height averages about 12,300 feet, slightly less than that of Tibet. It is famous for its fabulous masks and costumes. Perfect condition.
