The depiction of Negros in Andean folk art does occur. There are few black skinned people living in the mountains and more in the nearby Western lowlands. Our Negrito is roughly carved out of hardwood, probably used for a religious holiday. Older, authentic Ecuadorian masks like this one are rare and very desirable.
